Educational Philosophy and Infrastructure of the Department
The philosophy of the Department of Nursing Management is to train nurses who possess leadership competencies, a managerial perspective, and professional decision-making skills in the processes of planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing services. The main goal of our department is to educate innovative and solution-oriented nurses who can provide safe, evidence-based, and high-quality care in any setting where nursing services are delivered, and who can adapt to changing healthcare needs in light of the fundamental concepts, theories, and legal and ethical principles of management science. Accordingly, graduates are expected to adopt and effectively perform the managerial role of the nurse in public or private institutions providing primary, secondary, or tertiary healthcare services, think critically, communicate and collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, solve existing or potential problems in nursing services through scientific problem-solving and effective decision-making processes, create positive changes in the delivery of quality care through evidence-based practices, and act with awareness of their legal and ethical responsibilities, thus becoming contemporary and visionary nurse leaders.
The educational process is supported by up-to-date literature, management theories, and national and international health policies, and is conducted using student-centered and interactive learning methods. Within this framework, case analyses, problem-based learning, brainstorming, role play, group discussions, and digital learning materials are used, ensuring integration of theory and practice with contributions from experienced nurse managers. Practical courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are conducted in various institutions, primarily at the Ondokuz Mayıs University Health Practice and Research Center Hospital and the Samsun Training and Research Hospital affiliated with the Ministry of Health. During these practices, students gain experience in hospital and nursing management processes, quality and patient safety, organizational communication, human resource planning, leadership applications, and performance evaluation, thereby developing their managerial skills.
