The 11th Alumni Meeting organized by the Graduate Tracking and Evaluation Committee of the Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing Department, was held online under the theme “Nursing Experience in Germany.” The event was moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruveyde Aydın and saw active participation from nursing students. The speaker of the event was OMÜ graduate Nurse Ahsen Kalli, who currently works as a nurse in Germany. Ms. Kalli shared her experiences regarding nursing practices in Germany, providing comprehensive information about the country’s healthcare system, working conditions, professional procedures, and international practices. She noted that nursing is not a highly preferred profession among young people in Germany, salaries do not fully meet expectations, and there is a significant shortage of nurses. She also highlighted that the recognition and language proficiency processes are long and multi-step. Ms. Kalli began her professional journey abroad as a nursing assistant and obtained the title of nurse after completing the necessary recognition procedures. She explained that nurses in Germany are entitled to 30 days of annual leave, work in three-shift systems, and that bachelor’s degree programs in nursing last three years, while graduate programs are paid; nurses pursuing postgraduate education often work in academic fields. During the event, students asked questions about professional practices, working conditions, and international career opportunities in Germany, which Ms. Kalli answered with examples from her own experiences. At the end of the event, the Graduate Tracking and Evaluation Committee presented a Certificate of Appreciation to our graduate, Ahsen Kalli. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruveyde Aydın, Chair of the Committee, emphasized that such events significantly contribute to strengthening the interaction between alumni and students, raising students’ awareness of international professional development opportunities.
